JAMES WARREN WRIGHT

James Warren Wright, 76, of New Castle, VA, went to be with Jesus on December 29, 2024. Born on October 15, 1948, to the late Delbert and Gertie Mae Wright of Upshur County, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Della Pick of Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon Gail Wright; children, Laura Rennert (Randy), Michael Wright, Kristina Fisher (Jimmy); grandchildren, Savannah Wright, Heather Trent, Catelyn Wright, Nichole Bethel, Nathaniel Warren Blevins; and great-grandson, Ezra Riley Bethel; his brother Delbert Wright, Jr. (Hallie), and his sister, Pam Childers (Mike). His adult journey began in Baltimore, MD, where he met his future bride while attending trade school. They married, started a family and returned to his beloved West Virginia to raise three children. There, he pursued his love of the outdoors as an avid fisherman—a passion that he carried throughout his life. Jim soon discovered his true calling when the Lord called him to become a “Fisher of Men” and he entered the ministry. This pursuit eventually directed his path to his second hometown—New Castle, VA. In his professional life, Jim was a man of many skills and talents which he applied in his occupation as a HVAC Technician, working his entire career at GJ Hopkins, Varney Inc and, eventually, retiring from Roanoke City. Retirement allowed more time for his two favorite endeavors—fishing and serving Jesus. Jim’s unwavering love for his family and the ministry was evident to all who knew him. His passion to serve his Lord compelled him to minister in many roles in the churches he called home over the years. His appreciation of music and love of the scriptures were the foundations of his roles as Praise and Worship Leader and Bible Teacher at Cornerstone Church in New Castle, VA. A celebration of his life will be held at the Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle, VA, on Friday, January 3rd, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1 pm with a memorial service at 2 pm. Graveside serve will follow at Huffman Memorial Park on Rt 42 in Craig County. Friends and family are welcome.
