HELEN OWENS SWINGLE Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, Helen Mae Swingle, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great- aunt, sister, and friend passed away in her home at the age of 76. Helen was born on November 3, 1945 in Craig County, VA to Luther and Rachel (Davis) Owens. Helen married Billy Harless in 1962. Together they had three children: Donna, Bobby, and Billy Jr. Helen started working at a very young age and held many strenuous jobs including cutting pulp-wood, but her last occupation and true calling was caring for others. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed football, basketball, and baseball. Her favorite teams were the Washington Commanders (NFL), Duke (NCAAB), and the Yankees (MLB). She enjoyed live music, playing Rook, working puzzles, and spending time with her family. She was best known for her generosity, kindness, and sense of humor. Helen was preceded in death by son, Billy Lewis Harless, Jr.; spouse, Jim Swingle; former spouse, Billy Harless; brothers, Randy Owens, Gary Owens ,Danny Owens and Jesse Owens; and sister, Brenda Owens Kendall. She is survived by two children, Donna Craft [Robert Gilbert] and Bobby Harless; four grandchildren, Travis Craft [Whitney Hubble], Holly [David] Secrist, Nathan Nelson, and Raelynn Harless; great-grandson, Caleb Secrist; three sisters, Hilda Harless, Patricia Tingler, and Connie [Oscar] Smith; two brothers Barry [Carol] Owens and Luther [Sandy] Owens; close nephews, Mike Owens and Gary Wayne Owens; a very special great-nephew, Brandon Wolfe; a special son-in-law, Harold Wayne Craft; and many other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Paxton Chapel Church with Pastor Raymond Christian officiating. Interment will follow at Crawford Cemetery Paxton Chapel.
