Myron D. "Pooch" Caldwell

Myron Darel "Pooch" Caldwell, 89 of New Castle, departed from this world and entered into heaven's gates on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Myron had been very ill for a long time and was being cared for by his loving wife and family. Myron was a veteran of World War II, having served as a signalman on the USS Tabberer in the Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the New Castle Christian Church; a life member of the Craig Valley Post 4491 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a life member of the World War II Memorial, and a life member of the Craig County Historical Society. Myron was a very generous and caring man having contributed and supported all youth activities in the area. He was an avid sportsman loving baseball at which he excelled in his earlier years. He loved all types of hunting, but he especially enjoyed turkey hunting. He taught many young hunters the techniques of the sport. He was held in high esteem by everyone who knew him and will be sorely missed. Myron was born May 12, 1926. He was the son of Alexander Caldwell and Mae Craft Caldwell, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dewey and Mabel Bradley; brothers and sisters Earl Caldwell, Russell "Bye" Caldwell, Buford Caldwell, Velma "Sis" Caldwell, Grace Wickline, Roberta Reynolds; half-brothers and half-sisters Calvin Caldwell, Alexander Caldwell, Ira Caldwell, Cora Caldwell, and Ammie Lee; brothers-in-law Robert Bradley and Ashby Bradley. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Opal Caldwell; sons Robbie (Joan) Caldwell and Richard Caldwell; daughter Susan (Anthony) Dillon; granddaughters Sara Caldwell, Abby Caldwell, Caitlyn Caldwell, and Amanda Dillon; brothers-in-law Dwight (Shirlene) Bradley, Jimmy (Cheryl) Bradley; sisters-in-law Evelyn Rhea, Helen (Wayne) Stapleton, Carrie (Jerry) Crawford; and two special nephews who took the place of the grandsons he never had, Kyle Crawford and Brad "his birthday boy" Crawford; and numerous other nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Huffman Memorial Park with Pastor Cody Rader officiating.
